Working Collectively

The First People artists work collectively on  large projects and individually on small art pieces.  The atmosphere is one of collaboration with emphasis on the success of the project as a whole. Competitiveness has no place in the group and individual talent is seen as a resource for the whole group to share.

The different strengths that emerge from individuals is harnessed so that all aspects of  the project thrive – from book keeping, to stock keeping, marketing to keeping the premises clean. All artists participate in the concept and design of large tapestries and all artists make drawings that are used in the designs. The cooks and cleaners also dance and perform, the printmakers clean out the septic tanks, and the textile artists keep the books.
